Swedish Citizenship Test Quiz – Test Your Knowledge

A quiz is a quick way to check your readiness for the Swedish citizenship test. Here, we'll cover what a good quiz should include, how to use the results constructively, and how to combine short quizzes with more in-depth practice – so you don't just 'get the right answer' but truly understand the civics behind the responses.

What is a good quiz worth?

A good quiz is short, quick, and gives you instant feedback. Perfect for 5–15 minutes of concentration – for example, during your lunch break or on the bus. It should also give you a clear indication of which areas you are strong and weak in.

On Medborgarprovet.com, we have a free 20-question quiz at /gratis-provtest-20-fragor (free practice test - 20 questions) that you can take without creating an account. After the quiz, you'll immediately see how many correct answers you had and a quick evaluation.

The advantage of a quiz over a complete practice test is the lower barrier – 20 questions are manageable even when you're tired, while 60 questions require more time and energy.

How the Swedish Citizenship Test works in practice

The citizenship test (medborgarskapsprovet) is a national knowledge test about Swedish society developed by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) on behalf of the government. The test is part of the new rules for Swedish citizenship that will come into effect on June 6, 2026. The first test session is planned for August 15, 2026, in Stockholm, with more locations opening gradually.

According to UHR, the test consists of approximately 60 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 90 minutes. Each question has four answer options, with exactly one being correct. The test is taken in Swedish and on paper in a supervised room. You are not allowed to bring mobile phones, dictionaries, or notes. There are no negative marks, so it always pays to answer all questions even if you are unsure.

Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency) is the authority that processes your citizenship application. When your application is complete, you will receive an instruction letter stating when and where you should take the test. Therefore, you cannot freely choose the time or location yourself – the instruction comes from Migrationsverket in collaboration with UHR's test system.

After the test, you will receive notification of whether you passed or not. If you fail, the proposal states that you can retake the test at the next regular opportunity. A failed test does not mean your citizenship application is immediately rejected – Migrationsverket always makes an overall assessment that also includes residency requirements, an orderly lifestyle, and maintenance requirements.

How to use your quiz results

Don't just look at the total number of correct answers – also look at which areas you were strongest and weakest in. Your next study time should be spent on your weaker areas.

A quiz result below 60 percent (12 out of 20 correct) signals that you need to build foundational knowledge before continuing with more tests. Read module guides and take notes before redoing the quiz.

A result above 80 percent (16 out of 20 correct) signals that you are well on your way. Continue with complete 60-question practice tests under timed conditions.

13 knowledge areas from "Sverige i fokus" (Sweden in Focus)

The test content is based on UHR's official educational material "Sverige i fokus" (Sweden in Focus). The material is open, free of charge, and divided into 13 clear knowledge areas. These cover society broadly – from the rules of democracy to everyday issues of welfare, work, and traditions. These are the same areas that the questions in the actual test are based on, making them your most important checklist.

The 13 areas are: The Country of Sweden, Sweden's Modern History, How Sweden is Governed, Sweden's Democratic System, Political Elections and Parties, Law and Justice, Human Rights, The Role of Media, Secular State and Multi-Religious Country, Sweden and the World, The Welfare Society, Labour Market and Personal Finances, and Traditions and Holidays. Each area contains both fact-based questions and questions that test your understanding of how society is interconnected.

At Medborgarprovet.com, we have built a dedicated module for each of these 13 areas. You can choose to first identify your weakest area and then train specifically, or take a complete practice test with mixed questions from all areas – just like in the actual test.

A good benchmark is to allocate at least a few hours per knowledge area, with extra focus on Law and Justice, How Sweden is Governed, and The Welfare Society. These areas are often perceived as the most comprehensive as they contain many institutions, concepts, and dates.

Difference from the actual test

A quiz is a simplified version of the actual test. The question format is the same (multiple-choice questions with four options), but the quantity is smaller. The actual test has approximately 60 questions in 90 minutes – a quiz usually has 10–20 questions in a few minutes.

Use quizzes as a first step. Then use module exercises (30–50 questions per area) to go in-depth. Finally, use complete 60-question practice tests to train your pace.

On Medborgarprovet.com, you will find all three levels: quizzes for quick tests, modules for depth, and complete practice tests for simulation.

How to prepare with Medborgarprovet.com

Medborgarprovet.com is a private, independent practice service in Swedish. We are not an authority and have no connection to UHR, Migrationsverket, or the government. Our mission is to make your preparations as simple, structured, and stress-free as possible so that you can approach test day with confidence.

We recommend a simple three-week plan: week 1, you focus on skimming all 13 module guides and taking short diagnostic tests. Week 2, you intensively train on the modules where you scored lowest, with active repetition every day. Week 3, you take at least three complete practice tests under timed conditions to get used to the pace of 60 questions in 90 minutes.

You can start for free: create an account and try our open practice questions immediately. If you want full access to the entire question bank, all module exercises, and complete test simulations, Premium costs 299 SEK as a one-time fee – no subscription, no binding period. The price is the same regardless of where you live in Sweden.

After each completed practice test, you receive a detailed results view showing which knowledge areas you master and which need more practice. Your history is saved so you can track your progress over time and see when you are ready for the actual test.

Retake the quiz after a while

A powerful method: redo the same quiz after 1 week and compare the results. If you see improvement – great, your training is working. If you don't see improvement – change your study method.

Alternate between different quizzes to avoid just memorising the same 20 questions. On Medborgarprovet.com, you can take randomised quizzes from the entire question bank when you have an account.

Aim to take at least 2 quizzes per week as a quick diagnosis of your progress.

Official sources and next steps

For official information on applications, waiting times, fees, and requirements, you should always consult Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency) (migrationsverket.se). For details about the test itself – content, times, test locations, and retake rules – UHR (the Swedish Council for Higher Education) (uhr.se) is the correct source. The government publishes propositions and assignments on regeringen.se, which is useful to monitor if you want to follow how the rules evolve.

Your next steps are generally: 1) Check that you meet the eight-year residency requirement, 2) read through UHR's "Sverige i fokus" overview, 3) create a free account here and take a diagnostic test to see where you stand, 4) set up a weekly plan and stick to it, 5) take practice tests under timed conditions in the final week before the actual test.

Remember that the citizenship test is only one of several components in the citizenship application. Maintenance requirements, an orderly lifestyle, and identity requirements are also assessed by Migrationsverket. You can start preparing even before submitting your application – the earlier you start, the calmer the final sprint will be.
