What is residency?
Residency means that you have lived in Sweden for a continuous period. The exact number of years depends on your situation and is assessed by Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency).
What applies from 2026?
According to Migrationsverket, the residency requirements will be tightened from June 6, 2026. For many, the requirement will be longer than before. The details can be found at Migrationsverket.
