What is the Swedish Citizenship Test?
The medborgarskapsprov (Swedish citizenship test) is a knowledge test about Swedish society that will be introduced as part of the requirements for Swedish citizenship from 2026. Here you will find a thorough overview of what the test entails.
Purpose of the Test
The purpose is to ensure that individuals becoming Swedish citizens have fundamental knowledge of how Swedish society functions β from democracy and the rule of law to welfare and traditions.
Test Structure
According to UHR (the Swedish Council for Higher Education), the test consists of approximately 60 multiple-choice questions to be answered within 90 minutes. Each question has four answer options with one correct answer. The test is taken in Swedish and on paper.
What is Tested?
The questions are based on UHR's educational material 'Sverige i fokus' (Sweden in Focus) and cover 13 knowledge areas.
