The Test for Residents of Borås

The Swedish citizenship test is a national examination – its content, number of questions, and assessment criteria are the same whether you live in Borås or any other Swedish municipality. Borås is located in Västra Götaland County and has approximately 115,000 inhabitants.

The test is developed by UHR (Universitets- och högskolerådet, the Swedish Council for Higher Education). Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency) will notify you of a test appointment via an assignment letter once you have submitted your citizenship application.

According to UHR, the citizenship test is a multiple-choice exam with approximately 60 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. Each question has four answer options with one correct answer. The test is written in Swedish and on paper. The first test session is scheduled for August 15, 2026, in Stockholm.

Most adults applying for Swedish citizenship from June 6, 2026, onwards will need to demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society. Some exceptions apply, for example, if you have completed SFI (Swedish for Immigrants) course D or have other approved education. Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency) will decide on a case-by-case basis.
