Who Needs to Take the Test?

Most adults applying for Swedish citizenship from June 6, 2026, onwards must demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society. Some exceptions apply, for example, for those who have completed sfi (Swedish for Immigrants) course D or have other approved education. Migrationsverket will decide on a case-by-case basis.

According to Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency), new rules for Swedish citizenship apply from June 6, 2026. Part of the requirement is to demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society – often in the form of a citizenship test administered by UHR.
