The Test for Residents of Helsingborg

The citizenship test is a national examination – the content, number of questions, and assessment criteria are the same whether you live in Helsingborg or any other Swedish municipality. Helsingborg is located in Skåne County and has approximately 150,000 inhabitants.

According to UHR, the citizenship test is a multiple-choice exam with approximately 60 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. Each question has four answer options with one correct answer. The test is taken in Swedish and on paper. The first test opportunity is scheduled for August 15, 2026, in Stockholm.

Most adults applying for Swedish citizenship from June 6, 2026, onwards will need to demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society. Certain exceptions exist, for example, if you have completed sfi course D (Swedish for Immigrants) or have other approved education. Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency) decides on a case-by-case basis.
