Swedish Citizenship Test in Nacka – How to Prepare for 2026

The Test for Residents of Nacka

The Swedish citizenship test (medborgarskapsprovet) is a national examination – the content, number of questions, and assessment are the same regardless of whether you live in Nacka or any other Swedish municipality. Nacka is located in Stockholm County and has approximately 110,000 inhabitants.

The test is developed by UHR (Universitets- och hΓΆgskolerΓ₯det – the Swedish Council for Higher Education). Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency) will notify you of a test session via an assignment letter once you have submitted your citizenship application.

According to UHR, the citizenship test is a multiple-choice exam with approximately 60 questions to be answered within 90 minutes. Each question has four possible answers, with only one correct option. The test is taken in Swedish and on paper. The first test session is scheduled for 15 August 2026 in Stockholm.

Currently, UHR has announced that the first test session is scheduled for 15 August 2026 in Stockholm. More test locations are expected to be added over time. Residents of Nacka should therefore plan for potential travel to the nearest test location.

Who Needs to Take the Test?

Most adults applying for Swedish citizenship from 6 June 2026 onwards will need to demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society. Some exceptions apply, for example, if you have completed sfi (Swedish for Immigrants) course D or have other approved education. Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency) makes this determination in each individual case.

According to Migrationsverket, new regulations for Swedish citizenship will apply from 6 June 2026. Part of the requirement is to demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society – often in the form of a citizenship test administered by UHR.
