Who Needs to Take the Test?

Most adults applying for Swedish citizenship from 6 June 2026 onwards must demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society. Some exceptions apply, for example, if you have completed sfi (Swedish for Immigrants) course D or have other approved qualifications. Migrationsverket determines each individual case.

According to Migrationsverket, new rules for Swedish citizenship apply from 6 June 2026. Part of the requirement is to demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society – often in the form of a citizenship test administered by UHR.
