Swedish Citizenship Test in Solna – How to Prepare in 2026
If you live in Solna municipality and plan to apply for Swedish citizenship, according to the new rules from 6 June 2026, you will need to demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society. Here we explain what this means for you in Solna and how you can prepare independently.
The Test for Solna Residents
The citizenship test is a national exam – the content, number of questions, and assessment are the same whether you live in Solna or any other Swedish municipality. Solna is located in Stockholm County and has approximately 85,000 inhabitants.
The test is developed by UHR (Universitets- och högskolerådet, the Swedish Council for Higher Education). Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency) will notify you of a test opportunity via a referral letter once you have submitted your citizenship application.
According to UHR, the citizenship test is a multiple-choice exam with approximately 60 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. Each question has four answer options with one correct answer. The test is taken in Swedish and on paper. The first test opportunity is scheduled for 15 August 2026 in Stockholm.

Currently, UHR has announced that the first test opportunity is scheduled for 15 August 2026 in Stockholm. More test locations are expected to be added over time. If you live in Solna, you should therefore plan for possible travel to the nearest test location.

Who Needs to Take the Test?
Most adults applying for Swedish citizenship from 6 June 2026 onwards must demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society. Some exceptions exist, for example, for those who have completed sfi (Swedish for Immigrants) course D or have other approved education. Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency) decides on a case-by-case basis.
According to Migrationsverket, new rules for Swedish citizenship apply from 6 June 2026. Part of the requirement is to demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society – often in the form of a citizenship test administered by UHR.
