Currently, UHR has announced that the first test date is scheduled for 15 August 2026 in Stockholm. More test locations are expected to be added gradually. Therefore, if you live in Uppsala, you should plan for possible travel to the nearest test location.

How to Prepare in Uppsala

The test content is based on UHR's educational material 'Sverige i fokus' (Sweden in Focus), which covers 13 knowledge areas: from democracy and law to welfare, traditions, and Sweden's history.

Who Needs to Take the Test?

Most adults applying for Swedish citizenship from 6 June 2026 onwards will need to demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society. Certain exceptions apply, for example, for those who have completed sfi (Swedish for Immigrants) course D or have other approved education. Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency) will decide on a case-by-case basis.

According to Migrationsverket, new rules for Swedish citizenship apply from 6 June 2026. Part of the requirement is to demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society – often in the form of a citizenship test administered by UHR.
