Swedish Citizenship Test in Varberg – How to Prepare for 2026

The Test for Varberg Residents

The citizenship test is a national test – the content, number of questions, and assessment are the same whether you live in Varberg or any other Swedish municipality. Varberg is located in Halland County and has approximately 67,000 inhabitants.

The test is developed by UHR (Universitets- och högskolerådet, the Swedish Council for Higher Education). Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency) will notify you of a test date via an assignment letter once you have submitted your citizenship application.

According to UHR, the citizenship test is a multiple-choice exam with approximately 60 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. Each question has four answer options with one correct answer. The test is written in Swedish and on paper. The first test occasion is planned for 15 August 2026 in Stockholm.

Who Needs to Take the Test?

Most adults applying for Swedish citizenship from 6 June 2026 onwards will need to demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society. Certain exceptions exist, for example, for those who have completed sfi (Swedish for Immigrants) course D or have other approved education. Migrationsverket will decide in each individual case.

According to Migrationsverket, new rules for Swedish citizenship will apply from 6 June 2026. Part of the requirement is to demonstrate knowledge of Swedish society – often in the form of a citizenship test administered by UHR.
