How the Citizenship Test Works in Practice

The citizenship test is a national knowledge test about Swedish society developed by Universitets- och högskolerådet (UHR), the Swedish Council for Higher Education, on behalf of the government. How Your Result Is Communicated

After the test is taken, your test results are sent to UHR for scoring. Scoring is automated as the test consists of multiple-choice questions with one correct answer per question. The notification – pass or fail – is usually communicated to you digitally within a few weeks after the test date.

When the result is ready, it is also sent to Migrationsverket, which incorporates the test result into your ongoing citizenship application. You do not need to send your test result to Migrationsverket yourself – the connection occurs automatically via UHR's system.

The content of the test is based on UHR's official educational material “Sverige i fokus” (Sweden in Focus). The material is open, free of charge, and divided into 13 clear knowledge areas.
