Domicile

Domicile means you have lived in Sweden for a certain continuous period. It is one of the requirements to obtain Swedish citizenship.

Exactly how long you need to have been domiciled depends on your situation – for example, if you are married to a Swedish citizen or are stateless.

According to Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency), the domicile requirements will be tightened in connection with the new rules in 2026.
